Honorable Alex Beehler, Advisory Board Member​

Alex Beehler is a highly respected leader in environmental strategy, energy policy, and sustainability, with over 30 years of experience navigating the intersection of government, defense, and private industry. His career is defined by expertise in Department of Defense (DoD) installations, energy management and development, and environmental oversight, making him a trusted advisor in these critical areas.

As a Senate-confirmed Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy, and Environment, Alex spearheaded the 2020 Army Installation Strategy, overseeing sustainability initiatives, military construction, resource management, and Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC). His leadership extended to privatizing Army real estate portfolios and addressing environmental, safety, and occupational health challenges across installations.

Previously, Alex served in senior defense roles, including Acting Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Installations and Environment and Assistant Deputy Under Secretary for Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health. As the DoD’s first Chief Sustainability Officer, he played a pivotal role in implementing groundbreaking sustainability policies under Executive Order 13423.

In addition to his public service, Alex has excelled in private-sector roles, offering strategic advice on environmental enforcement, nuclear energy, water resources, and public-private partnerships. He has worked with organizations like FaegreBD Consulting and Earth and Water Law, supporting clients in energy, climate, and environmental initiatives.

Alex holds degrees from Princeton University (A.B. in Public and International Affairs) and the University of Virginia School of Law (J.D.). A member of the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia Bars, his insights and leadership continue to drive impactful solutions in environmental and energy policy.

Sarah Bertagnolli brings exceptional strategic and operational expertise to the NANEA Advisory Board, with a distinguished background in energy, technology, and innovation. Over the past year, she has been instrumental in securing over $700 million in energy-related funding through targeted strategies and industry partnerships, underscoring her commitment to advancing impactful solutions in the energy sector.

As the President and CEO of LSI, Sarah has successfully led transformative initiatives in global professional services, client operations, and business growth. Her leadership has been pivotal in driving operational excellence, developing new revenue streams, and fostering innovation in complex industries, including aerospace, defense, and energy.

An alumna of the University of Utah, Sarah brings over 20 years of experience in operational transformation and strategic growth. Her deep understanding of energy policy, funding mechanisms, and stakeholder engagement aligns perfectly with NANEA’s mission to empower collaboration and innovation across the nuclear energy community.

Sally White, Advisory Board Member

Sally White, CEO and Founder of EchoWolf Solutions, is a seasoned executive advisor, marketing strategist, and master connector, with over two decades of experience driving transformative outcomes for clients across government, industry, and the private sector. She has built a reputation as a trusted partner to Federal Government agencies, Fortune 100 and 500 executives, and influential decision-makers, providing innovative strategies that bridge business objectives with actionable solutions.

Sally’s expertise extends deeply into the energy sector, where she has worked with associations tied to energy—including nuclear—and collaborated with energy companies spanning nuclear, wind, and solar. Her ability to navigate complex energy landscapes and build strategic partnerships has positioned her as a vital resource in advancing innovative, sustainable energy solutions.

Executive Staff

Cody Stewart, Senior Energy Advisor

Cody Stewart brings extensive experience in energy policy, public lands, and federal affairs to his role as Stakeholder Engagement Lead at the North American Nuclear Energy Association (NANEA). With a career spanning Capitol Hill, state government, and private sector consulting, Cody is recognized for his strategic leadership and commitment to fostering collaboration across the energy industry.

Before joining NANEA, Cody served as Staff Director for the House Committee on Natural Resources under former Chairman Rob Bishop (UT-01), where he led federal land and resource legislation through the U.S. House of Representatives.

His public service career also includes serving as Director of Federal Affairs for Utah Governor Gary Herbert, representing the state’s interests in Washington, D.C., on key issues including energy, natural resources, and public lands. On Capitol Hill, Cody held senior legislative roles, including Senior Legislative Assistant for Energy and Public Lands Policy to Rep. Chris Cannon (UT-03), Legislative Director to Rep. Rob Bishop (UT-01), and Executive Director of the Congressional Western Caucus.

At the state level, Cody served as Chief of Staff to Utah Lt. Governor Greg Bell and as Energy Advisor and Policy Director to Governor Herbert, where he led initiatives on sustainable energy development and innovative policy solutions.

A sought-after advisor and strategist, Cody brings valuable insight from his time in both public service and private consulting. He is passionate about advancing NANEA’s mission of fostering collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing within the nuclear energy industry across North America.

Cody lives in Utah with his wife, Mary, and their six children, remaining deeply connected to his Utah roots. His extensive experience in energy policy and leadership makes him uniquely equipped to guide NANEA’s efforts in promoting safe, sustainable nuclear energy solutions.

Joshua Johnson, Policy Advisor

Mr. Joshua Johnson is a seasoned expert in energy policy, water resource management, and legislative strategy, with nearly two decades of service in senior roles within the United States Congress. As Staff Director for the United States House Subcommittee on Water and Power, Mr. Johnson directed and supervised legislative staff, and federal agency fellows, providing critical oversight of bills addressing energy security, renewable energy, and sustainable water resource development. He successfully coordinated, negotiated, and advanced over 60 legislative measures that became U.S. Public Law, including key provisions to expand energy efficiency, enhance water infrastructure, and increase dam safety funding.

Mr. Johnson also served as Professional Staff for the United States Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, where he oversaw critical programs under the Department of Energy, Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Geological Survey. His work included drafting provisions of the Energy Independence and Security Act to incentivize energy-efficient technologies and commercialize renewable energy innovations. He played a pivotal role in shaping federal energy procurement policies, including the Appliance Standards and Energy Star programs, and negotiated agreements such as the Memorandum of Understanding between the Departments of Defense and Energy to enhance operational energy efficiency and sustainability.

Throughout his congressional career, Mr. Johnson organized more than 140 legislative and oversight hearings, guiding critical discussions on energy, climate adaptation, and water infrastructure. He worked with senior members of the Appropriations and Armed Services Committees to secure resources for transformative energy initiatives, sustainable development programs, and advanced technology research. Recognized as a Congressional Stennis Fellow, Mr. Johnson was selected for his leadership in fostering bipartisan collaboration and mentoring rising talent on Capitol Hill.

Mr. Johnson holds a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics, a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College, and an undergraduate degree from the University of Utah. His extensive expertise in legislative processes, energy policy, and stakeholder engagement makes him a valuable member of the NANEA Executive Staff.
